Making the most of your connections

Article Abstract:

UK construction consultant Allott & Lomax has derived considerable benefits from outsourcing technical drawing work to India. It initially worked with Indian designers on a 120 million pounds sterling combined power scheme in Andrapradesh, India. The Indian design bureau was able to offer a low price and to produce drawings which could be understood by Indian contractors. Allott & Lomax then worked with Bhagwati Designs in Mumbai, India, initially on a power scheme in the Middle East.

Australian export

Article Abstract:

Australian developer Lend Lease has been present in the UK since the late 1980s, but the beginning of strong European expansion really began with the purchase of the 350 million pounds sterling Bluewater regional shopping centre scheme in Dartford, England, from Blue Circle in mid-1994. This is the largest building project currently on site in the UK, and is planned to be the best shopping centre in Europe. Phased completion is planned for the period winter 1998-spring 1999.

Lend Lease steps up Bluewater pace

Article Abstract:

Property developer Lend Lease is currently looking to agree rates with major contractors for parts of the 350 million pounds sterling Bluewater shopping development in Dartford, England, which have not yet been designed. The company hopes in this way to restrict cost rises as the construction market begins to revive. It is extremely aware of the dangers of overheating, especially in the labour market, and is therefore keen to employ local labour.
