The exhibition entitled 'Fastforward Architecture: Leipzig 1989-96,' currently being held at the Building Centre, London, England, aims to make the UK construction industry aware of the many development opportunities in the city of Leipzig, Germany. There has been active involvement from UK companies which are already working in Leipzig. The city has seen rapid development over recent years, with new projects including the 50 million pounds sterling terminal for Leipzig-Halle airport.

Wow in Bilbao

Article Abstract:

The 44 million pounds sterling Guggenheim Museum designed by Frank Gehry for Bilbao, Spain, is currently nearing completion. The building, which is part of a larger urban renewal project, will play a key role in establishing Bilbao as an important cultural centre. It will not open until Oct 1997, but has already attracted considerable attention, especially as it is very unusual in appearance. Most noticeably, it is clad in a mixture of sandstone, titanium, glass and concrete render.

Circus troupe

Article Abstract:

UK-based architect partnership Circus Architects has actively promoted the concept of American-style loft conversions in the city of London, along with smaller shop fitting projects. Circus Architects is made up of nine architects, each bringing a different aspect to the company in terms of style and design. The company is hoping to start producing work which relates to portable construction, having worked mainly on loft conversions since 1991.
