Federated combines Macy's mail, Web operations

Article Abstract:

Cincinnati, OH-based Federated Department Stores Inc announced during the week of Aug 21, 2000, that it has folded the electronic commerce and direct mail operations of its Macy's division into a single structure. Beginning in fall 2000, the 'Macy's By Mail' catalog operation will merge with macys.com to consolidate the planning, merchandising and support functions. The objective of the measure is to sell nearly identical products across all Macy's retail channels.

NeimanMarcus.com hopes less is more

Article Abstract:

Neiman Marcus Co has inaugurated its new Web site, NeimanMarcus.com, in a move that hopes to bring high-end online shopping to consumers. The retailer touts the Web site as cleaner compared to other Web sites that are visually overloaded. However, some analysts, including Lisa Allen of Forrester Research think that the Web site is big and empty, with little merchandise available.

Saks: multichannel buyers spend more

Article Abstract:

Fashion retailer Saks has observed that its multichannel shoppers spend five times more than the single channel shoppers do. A majority of the customers are found to have done research online before coming into the stores. BestBuy spends considerable marketing resources for promoting e-commerce.
