Article Abstract:

The lead times of UK construction industry trade packages are monitored to analyse the procurement times involved in obtaining products within the industry. The lead time of bespoke cladding has increased by 20% from April 1998 to June 1998, giving a lead time of 17 weeks. Lead times of uninterruptible power supplies increased from 3 weeks to 13 weeks from April 1998 to June 1998 while drylining materials usually took about 8 weeks. The survey highlighted the demand within the industry but the failure of suppliers to keep up with demand.

Article Abstract:

Procurement lead times in the UK construction industry are generally lengthening, reflecting the fact that the industry's workload is rising. In control and building management systems, lead times have lengthened by between two and 16 weeks, while lead times for ductwork have increased by one week to 10 weeks, despite seven-day-a-week production in this sector. The average lead time for structural steel is 12 weeks, while the lead time for curtain-walling has increased by 30% to 30 weeks.
