Gerald Stevens files for Chapter 11 bankruptcy

Article Abstract:

Gerald Stevens has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, even as the floral retailer got a $7-million loan from the Bank of America. The bank loan, as well as sales during Easter and Mother's Day, will allow the company to continue operations. John G Hall, president of Gerald Stevens, said a slowing US economy has severely affected the company's business. Gerald Stevens sells flowers through 300 retail locations across the US, as well as through its Web site and mail-order business.
