Spiking fuel costs impetus for another FedEx rate hike

Article Abstract:

Federal Express Corp announced that it will increase the fuel surcharge on its domestic and international services from 3% to 4% starting Apr 1, 2000. The company announced that it will also increase the surcharge on FedEx International Airport-to-Airport and FedEx International Express Freight shipments from 10 cents to 15 cents per kilo. It will apply to all shipments tendered within the US and to all US export shipments. CFO Alan Graf said the 1% adjustment in fuel surcharge was necessary so that FedEx can maintain its unparalleled service to customers.

FedEx plans e-commerce service for small business

Article Abstract:

Federal Express Corp (FedEx) of Memphis, TN, will begin offering a service that is specifically targeted at small- and medium-sized businesses. The company's eCommerce solution, to be introduced in midsummer 2000, is being launched in cooperation with Chicago, IL-based Orbit Commerce Inc's eBusiness Platform. FedEx's eCommerce solution is intended to help companies enter online retailing by offering core e-business solutions such as Web design, catalog development and integrated shipping and tracking.

USPS touts new priority mail Web site

Article Abstract:

The US Postal Service has launched a new service that allows Web merchants to deliver the goods within two to three days. The Priority Mail Service Web site also allows online stores to register postage online, arrange pickups and locate the nearest post office for sending Priority Mail packages. A software available on the Web site will also permit Web merchants to seamlessly integrate the USPS site to their own site.
