HMV launches Canadian web site as worldwide E-commerce beachhead

Article Abstract:

HMV Media Group PLC of the UK is launching an online music store in Canada with a library of over 30,000 record titles. The Web site, designed as the company's platform for its e-commerce global expansion strategy, will be pushed by a direct marketing ad campaign, which will be handled by Toronto-based Joe Public. Canada was chosen as the launch site because North America represents a potentially lucrative market, said Peter Luckhurst, president of HMV North America.

Canadian banks use infomercials to snag new investors

Article Abstract:

TD Bank and Bank of Montreal have tried using long-form direct response television advertising for the first time to lure private investors into buying some of their new products and services. TD Bank has launched an infomercial campaign to promote Green Line Investor Services, its discount brokerage business. Bank of Montreal, on the other hand, has used the format to promote its mutual-fund division, First Canadian Funds.
