Ted Nugent United Sportsmen of America of Jackson, MI, is dropping its sporting goods retailing business to consolidate as a catalog and electronic commerce business. The company's catalog is called Spirit of the Wild and consists of products such as Ted Nugent-branded sporting goods equipment and apparel and Nugent's music CDs. Its online site, www.tnugent.com was designed by G Networks.

Ulta Salon Cosmetics Fragrance Inc will try marketing beauty care products through a 72-page catalog. Designed by Chicago, IL-based Ambrosi Blackdot, the catalog will showcase prestige fragrances, personal care appliances and cosmetic accessories. The Romeoville, IL-based retail beauty chain will send the catalog to prospective buyers in Philadelphia, PA, and nearby cities before the firm's planned opening of several stores in the area in 2000.

Custom publishing industry tops $1 billion

Custom publishing has become a more than $1-billion industry, according to 'Custom Publishing: Its Size and Characteristics,' a survey co-sponsored by New York-based magazine trade association Magazine Publishers of America and Veronis, Suhler and Associates Inc, an investment banker to the media industry. The research, conducted by New York-based Wilkofsky Gruen Associates Inc, identified healthcare, technology and finance/insurance/real estate as leading industries using custom publications.
