I'm your man

Article Abstract:

Construction Minister Nick Raynsford sees his role as helping the UK construction industry fulfill its potential in a positive environment. Raynsford is very supportive of Deputy Leader John Prescott who has criticised the construction industry since coming to office. Some industry observers fear that Raynsford will not be as effective as his predecessor because he is not a minister of state. Raynsford plans to get the Construction Act accepted by Dec 1997. He is also involved in adapting the Welfare to Work policy to suit the needs of the construction industry.

Clearing the hurdles

Article Abstract:

Mediation will be increasingly used to resolve disputes in the UK construction industry, according to John Price, mediator and claims consultant for construction disputes. He became involved with the Centre for Dispute Resolution in 1994, and since then has acted as an intermediary in many large cases in the UK and abroad. He believes that the process of mediation should be informal, and he gives a high priority to making the parties involved feel relaxed and ensuring that they trust him.
