The Asphalt Roofing Manufacturers Assn published a revised version of a 22-page brochure 'Good Application Makes a Good Roof Better' in summer 1999. The primary has been in strong demand since it was first issued in 1980. It covers both new roof construction as well as re-roofing. The brochure features very useful information on asphalt shingles. It also highlight the importance of providing adequate ventilation along with the use of self-adhered eave-and-flashing underlayments for valleys and for ice-dam and water protection in roofing.

Choice is the watchword of today's asphalt roofing market
Article Abstract:
Tried-and-true asphalt-based roofing materials in whatever form continue to hold a strong share of the US roofing industry. This remains true in 2001, after a year that brought significant price hikes for both raw materials and energy costs. While 88% of the roofing contractors surveyed in fall 2000, said they experienced price increases for asphalt, they did not seem to let that stop them from using the material. Some suppliers even reported that they experienced a surprisingly good first quarter.
