Itching to go home: if you get irritable eyes or headaches when at work but are fine once you leave the office, you could be a victim of sick-building syndrome

Article Abstract:

The Health and Safety Executive has launched guidelines on steps that should be taken to prevent sick-building syndrom (SBS), and the Royal Society of Health and the Building Research Establishment are to set up a database on SBS. There have also been major reports on SBS including the BSRIA which found no link between air-conditioning and SBS, and a joint study by the Welsh School of architecture and the Bartlett School of Graduate Studies, which argued that it was more likely that people were sick rather than a building causing their ill health.

New body, old wheels

Article Abstract:

The new museum for the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust is under construction. The building consists of a 90 meter diameter semi-circular exhibition hall and a two storey block housing offices and support facilities. The museum is being built under an unusual form of contract which is inflexible and complex. However the client and the various professionals involved have achieved a good spirit of co-operation through regular meetings and a commitment to the project.
