Jury says Boston Whaler had right to drop dealer

Article Abstract:

The Connecticut federal court ruled that Boston Whaler did not violate state franchise laws when it terminated its sales agreement with boating retailer Boats Inc in Oct 1996. The court said Boats Inc was not an exclusive franchise of Boston Whaler since the former was also selling boats made by Grady-White and the cancellation of the Boston Whaler agreement did not drive Boats out of business. However, Boats owner Brian Olson lamented the decision saying he would have been forced out of business had he not carried the Grady-White line.
