Leyton fire station

Article Abstract:

Leyton fire station, UK was completed on Nov 15 1991 at a cost of nearly 1,913 pounds sterling metres squared gross floor area. Costs were high as: the fire station had to remain fully operational; the project was phased with the administration block constructed first and a temporary appliance bay was built before demolition of the original station began. The small site size and height restrictions resulted in an unconventional design. The building is divided into accomodation and management blocks, 3 storeys high and 1 below ground. Twenty-eight firemen work a 4-watch duty system.
