Now is the time to act on MACT

Article Abstract:

The new maximum achievable control technology standards or Boat MACT issued by the Environmental Protection Agency shall come into effect this summer. The marine Industry has to start taking its decisions regarding compliance and steps it needs to take to achieve the same now. Various bit of work need to be done before the standards come into effect by the boat builders like, getting permits, talking to suppliers, engineers and managers.

Lawmakers extend freeze on CAFE standards

Article Abstract:

The marine industry is getting a reprieve from the corporate average fuel economy standards which were frozen by Congress in response to industry's lobbying efforts. The standards affect sport utility vehicles and light trucks, many of which are used in pulling trailerable boats. Members of the National Marine Manufacturers Assn were instrumental in informaing Congress about the negative effects that a freeze would bring about.

Efforts of Marine Retailers Association of America to identify the boat manufacturers who are abiding by the guidelines of manufacturer/dealer contract and inability of the National Marine Manufacturers Association to come up with a report card on the progress of the guidelines are discussed.
