QSs in revolt

Article Abstract:

Quantity surveyors (QSs) belonging to the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) have objected to changes in their organisation as put forward in the Agenda for Change document. The RICS point out in the new structure the QSs will belong to a major faculty within the organisation. The QSs have pointed out they will be no longer be one out of seven divisions but one out of 16 faculties. They also suggest the changes will be too costly. There have been calls for the board to resign. Some 100,000 surveyors belong to the institution, of these 30,000 are quantity surveyors.

The game of the name

Article Abstract:

A code of practice for brick distributors has been introduced by manufacturers aimed at reducing major over-stocking and preventing distributors from misleading specifiers. Manufacturers see brick factors, independent companies selling bricks to contractors and small housebuilders, as the main problem. The code will enable manufacturers to withdraw warranties for bricks that have been renamed.
