Rio to Reading

Article Abstract:

At the beginning of Sep 1992, 350 international speakers met at Reading University (UK) to discuss methods for reducing world fuel consumption by using renewable energy such as the sun, wind and water. The implementation of energy efficiency will reduce global warming. In 1991, world consumption of renewable energy was 5%. In the UK, over 1/2 of energy is used on heating buildings. Only 100,000 houses in the UK use solar heating. The Richard Rogers Partnership and Ove Arup have jointly designed a self-sufficient office block using wind and water power.
