SandStar brings telemarketing inhouse

Article Abstract:

Salt Lake City, UT-based SandStar Family Entertainment Inc announced in Jun 1, 2000 that it will bring its telemarketing operations back inhouse after it discontinued the prison telemarketing program it was previously using. The company decided to terminate the telemarketing program outsourced to Utah Correctional Industries after receiving several complaints that inmates wrote letters to teen-age girls whose names and addresses were obtained by inmates from the program.

Study: large companies favor direct channel for computer products

Article Abstract:

Large corporate buyers of computer products are generally more satisfied with direct sellers such as Gateway and Dell than with large corporate resellers such as GE Capital and Compucom, according to a survey conducted by Technology Research Inc of Hampton, NH. The survey found that direct vendors had a higher score in 12 out of 16 categories compared with both value-added resellers and corporate resellers. The survey, conducted in the first quarter of 1999, interviewed 330 end-users, mostly information-systems managers, at companies employing at least 500 people.

Credit union combines centers, uses targeted marketing

Article Abstract:

Provident Central Credit Union of Redwood Shores, CA, has integrated two centers and cross-trained the agents to improve its marketing efficiency. The company combined its legacy database of account histories with a marketing database that tracks the products that have been offered to its 84,000 customers. Provident hopes that its new system would be enable agents to cross-sell products, while also performing as customer-service specialists and backups.
