The simple life

Article Abstract:

The architectural importance of the 1960s is very evident in the work of UK architect Glenn Howell. Many of his buildings rely on concrete and 1960s styling, although critics have not been too impressed with some of his work. Howell won a competition to design a 100 unit apartment in Manchester known as the Britannia Basin. His design was chosen because the judges felt it was a modern idea based on 1960 values. Howell studied architecture during the 1980s but believes good architectural design is important in any era.

Multiculture club

Article Abstract:

Using a multicultural team of architects brings significant cultural benefits, according to Alejandro Zaera-Polo, who heads Foreign Office Architects with his wife Farshid Moussavi. They are currently involved in two large schemes, a 150 million pounds sterling ferry terminal in Yokohama, Japan, and four conversion projects for Belgian restaurant chain Belgo. Moussavi reports that, in the case of the former scheme, they have greatly appreciated the advice they have received from Japanese architect Toyo Ito.

Life after Rogers

Article Abstract:

Swiss-born architect Pierre Botschi's move into hotel architectural design has come at the end of a long period of discovery, upheaval and innovation. Botschi was employed by Richard Rogers Partnership after having worked on the innovative town design of Milton Keynes during the late 1960s and early 1970s. Botschi spent 14 years with Rogers, only to be made redundant during the recession in 1992. Botschi is involved in the architectural design of a 30 million pounds sterling hotel being built in Austria.
