Article Abstract:

The recession has affected the construction industry badly. Stone masonry demand has declined by 15% and earnings have been reduced by 1/3 to 60 pounds sterling daily. Workforce cuts have stimulated internal door production and seasonal demand has stimulated boiler production. The most lucrative area is precast concrete frames. This is because it is cheap, fast to construct and versatile. The Precast Construction Frame Association provides clients with a guarantee covering design manufacture, supply, and erection.

Article Abstract:

Lead times in the construction industry remain stationary for 1992. Reduction is the only reported change in the CFA piling, precast concrete frames, and stone masonry industries. The air-handling plant sector has reported a 2 week reduction and the slate roofing industry up to 3 weeks, which has led to job cuts of up to 25%. Metal window manufacturers have reported a 2 week lead time increase.

Article Abstract:

The lead times for 24 construction products have remained stable during 1991-2 although four of the products have a shorter lead time in May 1992 than in Mar 1991. This is due to the recession and reduced demand. Manufacturers have higher levels of stocks and can supply orders more quickly.
