Choosing a dryer: our tests found differences in ease of use, drying speed and features

Article Abstract:

Fourteen clothes dryers were tested for efficiency, speed, air filter cleaning, front and rear exhausts, safety features and special features. The two outstanding models are the Hoover 5010D, priced at $399, and the Simpson Sirocco 500 priced the same. The Simpson needs 25 minutes to dry each kilogram of clothes. The Hoover takes about seven addition minutes. The Hoover filter is the easiest to use whereas the Simpson's is mounted on a rear wall inside the dryer. Both are energy efficient.
