Gas competition

Article Abstract:

Deregulation of the UK gas supply network began in 1996 with the Gas Act, since when British Gas's monopoly of the market has been gradually dismantled. There are now 60 companies licensed to supply gas to business users. Most gas contracts are negotiated on either a fixed unit cost with a separate standing charge or one fixed price per unit basis. Tips for negotiating a successful gas supply contract are included.

The financing of political campaigns during the 1996 elections was morally suspect, if technically legal. Citizens are clamoring for campaign-finance reform, yet politicians resist. The trouble is that the difference between right and wrong behavior has become blurred as people focus exclusively on money. The consequences of this shift in behavior may be dire for American democracy.
