Shallow and deep rotations in the Miocene Alps
Article Abstract:
Data on the kinematics of the Alps' external thrust belts during the middle to late Miocene Jura phase indicate that the Adria-Europa convergence's shallow, obducted and largely brittle lid portion had splintered into a series of sublids. A crude first approximation model suggested the sublid's rigidity. However, data shows differential rotations and longitudinal stretching within the lid. The individual sublids moved independently to a certain degree. This permitted some type of gap formation between the sublids.

Early to mid tertiary crustal extension in the Central Alps: the Turba mylonite zone (Eastern Switzerland)
Article Abstract:
The Turba mylonite zone (TMZ) is an east dipping, low-angle normal fault containing east-west directed crustal extension in the Central Alps. TMZ separates the upper and lower stacks of nappes in the Penninic-Austroalpine boundary zone of Eastern Switzerland. The TMZ-containing mylonites undergo a top-to-the-east directed movement. The age of the TMZ fault is 45 to 30 Ma. The east-west crustal extensions were followed by a north-south shortening producing postmylonitic folding in the TMZ.

Thermomechanical consequences of Cretaceous continent-continent collision in the eastern Alps (Austria): Insights from two-dimensional modeling
Article Abstract:
Two-dimensional numerical modeling methods were used to study the thermomechanical consequences of closure of the Meliata-Hallstatt ocean and Cretaceous continent-continent collision in the eastern Alps of Austria. It is deduced that the temperature evolution during eclogite exhumation is mainly reliant on rates of tectonic movements, but independent of the mode of exhumation.
