Trace element modeling of aqueous fluid - peridotite interaction in the mantle wedge of subduction zones

Article Abstract:

Different models were formulated to explain the contents of Island Arc Basalt (IAB) erupted at the volcanic front in arcs without significant sedimentary presence. The IAB are modeled as a two-component combination of depleted lherzolite and slab-sourced aqueous fluid that has contacted lherzolite in the wedge. The model features four steps of chemical processes, with each process described by an equation featuring an adjustable variable. Modeling of IAB compositions from oceanic environments revealed a generally lower level of fluid-wedge interaction, and thus a greater slab component in primite IAB.

Petrology and geochemistry of Camiguin Island, southern Philippines: insights to the source of adakites and other lavas in a complex arc setting

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to analyze the petrology and geochemistry of Camiguin Island, Philippines. Sources of adakites and other lavas were examined. Results suggested that the most possible source of Camiguin and Central Mindanao Arc magmas is the mantle wedge metasomatized by dehydrated fluids from a subducted slab. Findings also showed that adakites from Mindanao are not pure slab melts but similar to Camiguin high-silica lavas that are products of assimilation and fractional crystallization processes.
