Transect across the northwestern Grenville orogen, Georgian Bay, Ontario: Polystage convergence and extension in the lower orogenic crust

Article Abstract:

The results of a transect across the western Central Gneiss Belt and neighboring areas of the Grenville Front Tectonic Zone along the shoreline of Georgian bay, Ontario, are summarized. The basis is regional geological mapping together with detailed structural, metamorphic and geochronological studies. Variations in structural style, thermal history and metamorphic grade, constrain the mechanical impact of polystage convergence and extension.

Lateral ramps as an aid to the unroofing of deep-crustal rocks: Seismic evidence from the Grenville province

Article Abstract:

It is suggested that lateral ramps in the basement to orogenic wedges could be significant in the rapid unroofing of a deeply buried continental crust, following studies of the distribution of high-pressure metamorphosed continental rocks in the Mesoproterozoic Grenvillian orogen in eastern Quebec. Reconstruct-ion methods were based on correlations between gneissic layering attitudes and those of reflectors on the seismic profile.

Thermotectonic evolution of the Grenville Province of western Labrador

Article Abstract:

Data from field studies, geothermobarometry, U-Pb and 40Ar/39Ar geochronology provide insightful information on the tectonic history of the Grenville Province of western Labrador. Among other features, this methodology provides for accurate estimation of the evolution of the Gagnon, the labradorian magmatic arc of Molton Lake and Lac Joseph terranes from one single plate in the region.
