OCR Faithful Keep Saying 'Seeing Is Believing'

Article Abstract:

Optical character recognition (OCR) devices can scan 3,000 pages an hour with as little as one per cent error. Limitations are the small number of typefaces that can be read and the cost. OCR technology is gaining attention as its costs go down, its character recognition versatility increases, and its integration into word processing, electronic mail and packet switching networks expands. The capabilities and components of several OCR products are described, such as the low-cost Mitsui-Totec, Amer-O-Matic's remittance processor, and Optical Business Machines' LASER- OCR-TWO.
