Experience and the decision to participate in the labour market: results from a conditional logic model

Article Abstract:

A conditional logic model has been used to analyse the link between married women's work experience and the probability of their participating in the labour market, and the results indicate that decisions on whether to enter the labour force reflect women's aims to miximise lifetime utility. While results indicate that lack of childcare provision is an important constraint for women with small children, there is a need for more research on constraints affecting women's labour force participation.

The impact of demographic deterioration on labour balances in Greece

Article Abstract:

The effect of demographic deterioration on the Greek labor market and the probability of labor shortages arising from such a development is analyzed. A disaggregated approach, conducted by region and occupation, predicts the entry and exit as well as the requirements of the labor market by 2000. The results indicate that, despite the predicted deficits in nearly all regions of Greece, immigrants and other workers will be able to address the shortage and many of them will remain unemployed.
