Strategy for economic development: a model at a regional university in Kentucky

Article Abstract:

Western Kentucky University's Institute for Economic Development and Public Service plays a vital role in developing South Central Kentucky's economy. The institute, which was established in 1989, aims to establish a connection between the business community, government agencies and other groups associated with regional economic development works. Some of the works the institute is engaged include development of small business enterprises and provision of support to local communities' industrial recruitment.

Workforce preparedness: a community partnership for economic development

Article Abstract:

The state of North Carolina has embarked on a mission of workforce preparedness to address future economic development. North Carolina has posted successive years of high economic growth and high employment, an edge it has decided to keep by aligning its educational and social support system with industry demands. The state's community colleges are at the forefront in efforts to supply the industry with the needed worker skills training and productivity enhancement technologies.

A comprehensive strategy for rural downtowns

Article Abstract:

The National Trust for Historic Preservation's Main Street Program is not only an economic development effort for generating reinvestment and employment. The program also aims to preserve and enhance the heritage of communities. The Main Street approach facilitates economic revitalization by strategic consensus building and highly structured technical support. It encourages individual businesses to work together towards mutually beneficial goals.
