Transient jobs and lifetime jobs: dualism in the British Labour market

Article Abstract:

The distribution of completed job tenure for men and women in Britain shows a bimodal pattern, with one peak at low tenures and one in the 5-10 years range. The differences in data are brought about by a higher fraction of women in the shortest band and a higher fraction of men in the 20 years band. The most influential factor that affects tenure is age and the difference between men's and women's tenure is least in the youngest and oldest groups.

Family, work, and welfare history: work and welfare outcomes

Article Abstract:

A cohort of Maryland Aid to Families with Dependent Children (AFDC) recipients were examined to determine the impact of family and work variables in the recidivism rate and to establish the link between work and welfare outcomes. Family AFDC and work history conditioned a woman's early labor market behavior. However, variations in recidivism decisions were affected by employment variation or firm types.
