Article Abstract:

Devendra Singh has carried out research on body measurements. The work began when he was studying weight and eating disorders. He argues that women with a waist-hip ratio of 0.7 are seen as most desirable as mates due to this being the shape of a sexually mature, healthy and fecund woman. Singh sees breasts as less important for sexual selection, and he argues that the waist-hip ratio preferences hold true for all cultures. He has been criticised on a number of grounds including debate on whether fertility and health can be linked to the preferred waist-hip ratio.

In praise of unknown metre maids

Article Abstract:

Women poets from the 18th century have been rediscovered and this has led to a reassessment of literary history. Women poets have different concerns from men poets. Women poets were previously seen as imitating men's work, but this view has changed and there is more emphasis on the particular qualities of women's poetry.
