A positive thinker with a keen eye for the big planetary picture

Sir Gordon Conway, president of the Royal Geographical Society (RGS), is keen on promoting geography not only as a subject but also as a key catalyst for intercultural and international relations. He is a positive thinker who believes that the RGS can enable community cohesion to tackle global issues such as climate change, migration and infectious diseases.

A more human scale to the maps

Article Abstract:

The Royal Geographical Society (RGS) is making progress and has now moved its entrance to Exhibition Road in an attempt to open the society visually, intellectually and physically. Rita Gardner, director of the RGS, feels that the society has unfairly suffered from a bad reputation as being a stuffy and elite gentlemen's club.

Explore 2006 will take place at the headquarters of the Royal Geographical Society and will see 250 undergraduates from all over the UK converge. Explore is an annual expedition and fieldwork planning seminar for stidents planning overseas fieldwork.
