All sewn up: Oxford bags-of-money

Article Abstract:

Construction of Oxford University's 25 million pounds sterling Said business school is due to commence in early 1999 following three years of controversy. Environmentalists and dons at the university were initially opposed to construction of the school on university playing fields, with planning permission later difficult to obtain for the alternative site. Syrian-born businessman Wafic Said is funding the project, with proponents claiming other university colleges have also been funded by controversial benefactors. The school is due to open in October 2000.
