Ask Questions and Become a Wise Media Budget Manager

Article Abstract:

Eight questions pertaining to making choices about the purchase of media equipment are presented. Two basic questions, 'What are the reasons for this purchase?' and 'Is there a better way to do it?', are discussed in the most detail. Other topics covered are 'What happens if the purchase is successful?', 'Where are the bargains?', and the cost justification of software. A thorough investigation of these questions will aid the media budget manager in solving budget problems.

Media Management: Guidelines for Off-Air Taping of Copyrighted Works for Educational Use

Article Abstract:

Teachers who videotape off-air for instructional purposes should be aware of the guidelines set by Congress. These guidelines, which are described in detail, try to set a balance between the rights of copyright owners, and the needs of educators. These guidelines, however, do not apply to cable TV, commercial videotapes and videodiscs. Eventually, laws will be needed to definitively describe fair use.

Media Management: Developing a Center for Our Broadcast Heritage

Article Abstract:

The Illinois Broadcasters Association (IBA) is the first state association to develop a broadcasting library-museum. Concerns include finding a location, preservation, storage, security, accessibility, duplication, and whether a university library would have the facilities and personnel on-site, or off- campus. The IBA hopes to serve as a model for other states to preserve the broadcasting heritage.
