Blood, iron and creative havoc

Article Abstract:

British prime minister Tony Blair is compared with Otto von Bismarck, German chancellor and the architect of German unification in 1871, in an attempt to illuminate the attributes that make great leaders. It is argued that the ability to inspire others is central to being a great leader, even if you are unsettling those you are inspiring at the same time. It is suggested that both Blair and Bismarck share this ability to inspire and unsettle their followers.

The phoenix may yet soar on a wing and a prayer

Article Abstract:

An analysis of the military, political and social situation in Iraq. It is argued that the current situation in Iraq for the coalition forces has reached a stalemate and that the best way forward would be for a redeployment of troops and for the Iraqi security forces to be given complete responsibility for law and order by end-summer 2005.
