Budget gap looms in US

Article Abstract:

Every US state faces a possible budget deficit which is likely to leave public higher education with less financial support as it competes with spending demands on primary education and healthcare, according to a study by the National Center for Higher Education Management Systems (Nchems). The study says state governments will collect 5.7 percent less in revenue than will be needed to maintain current service levels until at least 2013.

US under pressure to dump Sudan holdings

Article Abstract:

Around 40 US universities have agreed to disinvest in firms that do business with the Government of Sudan following pressure from an organised national movement of students. Some universities have completely cut ties while others are considering the matter or have agreed to refrain from making future investments in firms supporting Sudan's government.
