Charging up the engines of development

Article Abstract:

New vice-chancellor of the University of Ulster Gerry McKenna hopes that the awareness of the cultural and social issues and constraints in Northern Ireland he has as a local person will enable him to take the university forward more rapidly than if he were an outsider. Industrial relations guru George Bain declares that he cannot imagine a more attractive job than his current post as vice-chancellor of the Queen's University of Belfast. He insists that his controversial 25 million pound sterling restructuring plan received overwhelming support from academic council and senate.
