Advice for academics on how to manage their career and deal with academic rivalry. Academics are advised to figure out whether they are individualists or team players; to make sure that they have people who will provide them with political, intellectual and emotional support; to find out about their legal options are if any rivalry gets out of hand; to recognise the value of competition; and not to take things personally.

Advice for academics and college faculty on how to effectively complain about problems at work. Tips include specifically identifying the problem, making suggestions for changes that could be made, gaining a knowledge of policies, agreements and laws which can be used to back up a position and not allowing management to get away with ignoring the complaint.

Advice for academics on how to conduct themselves in job interview. Tips include finding out as much as possible about the job and the university that is offering it before going to the interview, finding out who will be on the interview panel, wearing suitable clothing and not trying too hard to be clever in the interview.
