Farewell to the duvet degree

Article Abstract:

An explanation of the decision by Sussex University to restructure its art courses in order to increase the amount of contact time that students have with tutors. In the past, art students would have clocked up far few contact hours with their students than counterparts taking science-based courses, with the rationale being that art students are developing the traits of independent learning and critical thinking, while science students have to come to grips with more technical elements and therefore need more contact time. The change in approach is related to two issues; firstly, with increased tuition fees comes the expectation that people get what they are paying for; and secondly, with an increasing number of students comes the need for a greater level of contact time if everybody is to get the attention they need.

Supernatural theory has no place in classroom

Article Abstract:

An analysis of the opinion of academics about the possibility of teaching intelligent design in schools in the UK. British academics argue that intelligent design is not a scientific theory, has no basis in science, is fundamentally flawed in every aspect of its thought and, if discussed at all, should be confined to religious education lessons.
