Marriott is a hotel company which also provides services for Florida's University of Tampa. The company was awarded the contract for non-core services which have subsequently improved. Facilities management companies like Marriott can help US universities tackle financial problems. Servicemaster is another US company involved in this field. These companies can provide economies of scale due to their size. Marriot has only become involved in facilities management in the three years to 1996, but has previously provided catering services for colleges.

Swansea's flowerpot men

Article Abstract:

A former university student reminisces on the delights of the Botanic Garden at Swansea University, Wales. The peaceful ambiance of the garden is remembered. He reports only ever seeing three other people in the garden despite it being open to the general public. The student found the garden the ideal place to study difficult texts. He welcomes the fact the garden is still in existence despite widespread financial cuts in UK universities.
