Get a life, virtually speaking

Article Abstract:

Virtual libraries and virtual communities are important for new views of learning which place emphasis on collaboration, experience, expression and exploration. The development of a virtual infrastructure can help with lifelong learning projects. Virtual academic communities will bring changes, and views will change on the way that students become involved in learning. Misbehavior may also become a problem, for example, when malicious annotations are made to materials.

As Oxford University's professor of the public understanding of science, Richard Dawkins, promotes science understanding and leaves research on what the public does know to others in his field. Dawkins is responsible for a number of books which explore Darwinism, including 'The Selfish Gene', 'The Blind Watchmaker', 'The Extended Phenotype', and 'Climbing Mount Improbable'.

Article Abstract:

The Virtual Futures '95 conference was recently held at Warwick University, and it was attended by 540 delegates. The conference was based on the philosophy of Gilles Deleuze and Felix Guattari, and features included computer movies, and a performance by Australian artist Stelarc. An overview of the subjects addressed at the conference is included.
