Iraq fears for lost generation

Article Abstract:

Some two million professionals are estimated to have left Iraq since the Gulf War, among whom are large numbers of university lecturers. Those who remain are fairing poorly, with the value of lecturers' monthly fees falling from around 800 pounds sterling to just three pounds sterling. University facilities have deteriorated, with few textbooks and little computer equipment. Educationalists fear that sanctions and lack of education are causing a lost generation of young people, who are unhealthy and poorly educated.
