It probably won't be you

Article Abstract:

There are many misconceptions about the law of averages and the chances of winning the National Lottery, but the probability of being a winner remains remote at about one in 14 million. Many lottery systems work by analysing past draws, but by trying to detect patterns the system is actually focusing on the wrong thing. Any patterns found will always be a coincidence. Those considering playing the lottery should remember their small chance of winning - there is actually a negative expectation - and consider whether they really want a change in lifestyle.

A subject in the prime of life

Article Abstract:

The suggestion that the end of mathematics is in sight is an exaggeration, despite the great speed at which the great unsolved puzzles of mathematics are being disposed of, not least because new puzzles are emerging every day. Mathematicians achieved major breakthroughs in proving Fermat's Last Theorem and the Four Colour Theorem, but there is no shortage of major mathematical problems for future generations to tackle. These include the Poincare Conjecture of 1904, the Reimann Hypothesis of 1859, and the Kepler Problem which dates back to 1611.

Sum people...

Article Abstract:

A mathematician relates why his mathematical mind makes life like a maze, with every twist and turn likely to reveal a new direction. He believes that mathematics leads a virtual existence, coexisting uneasily with the outside world and balanced between reality and imagination. A mathematical mind is always appraising the surrounding environment and seeing it in new ways.
