Lampl says: Ask and you'll receive

Article Abstract:

A report by the Sutton Trust, a charity set up by educational philanthropist Sir Peter Lampl, has suggested that U.K. academics must be actively engaged in university fundraising in order to raise enough funds to compete with American universities. It recommends that staff should follow the example of their American peers by asking and receiving alumni contributions, while also wanting the Government to match donations to universities pound-for-pound up to a specified amount.

WANT TO BE A HIGH-FLYER? IT'LL COST YOU

Article Abstract:

US universities are increasingly applying variable fees to subjects that lead to high earning potential and the same could happen in the UK if the fee cap is lifted. Large fee rises however could price some students out of the market and a 2002 report commissioned by Congress forecast that two million prospective students could find higher education prohibitively expensive by 2012.
