Light and dark

Article Abstract:

Digital images are made by dividing a picture into grids and giving each cell a number relating to its colour intensity. They can be kept in a computer's memory and used to produce hard copy images. The digital image can be altered using new technology. They contain a finite amount of information and can be manipulated unlike photographs. Some observers fear that the photograph will no longer be regarded as an accurate record of an event, given that digital imaging can subtly alter photographic images.

FEFC looks at 'youth' credits for funding

Article Abstract:

The Further Education Funding Council (FEFC) awards government funds to further education colleges in the UK. They are considering insisting that part of the funding is awarded on the amount of training credits offered by the colleges. This move is opposed by many colleges, although the scheme is being tried in some areas. Training credits will be given to those leaving school and not continuing in full-time education. They are worth varying amounts of money and are available in varying formats.

Diversity, credit in cash context: tories set up reform team

Article Abstract:

The Conservative Party has launched a review of higher education and is inviting submissions from organisations interested in the future of the sector. The review runs parallel to the government's review of higher education. The Higher Education Funding Council believes it should have a more interventionist role to make any significant structural changes, and university unions are calling for a learning society without financial constraints.
