Manager 'rewrote history' for QAA bid

Article Abstract:

An investigation by the Times Higher Education Supplement has revealed that while Liz Royle was head of quality assurance at Liverpool Hope College, she amended a paper sent to Quality Assurance Agency auditors in November 2000 in order to boost the college's successful bid for degree-awarding powers. Simon Lee, then principal of Hope, withdrew the document from the QAA when a member of staff complained about Royle's actions. Royle is now senior assistant registrar at the North East Wales Institute (Newi) in Wrexham, which is putting together a bid for its own degree-awarding powers. A spokesman for stated that Royle will play a full role in the development of the institute's bid until the earlier allegations are proved.
