Article Abstract:

A survey of further education colleges in the UK has found that may are uneasy about their relationships with their partners in higher education and that they would prefer that their foundation degrees accredited by an awarding body instead. Many of the 52 colleges that took part in the survey noted that having the funding for their foundation degrees channelled through a higher education partner was unsatisfactory and inequitable, arguing that it is difficult to see what benefit they get from such an arrangement.

No call to cut places

Article Abstract:

The Higher Education Funding Council for England's offer to universities and colleges which would allow them to cut their numbers in return for retained funding, has only been taken up by one university. Most organisations feel that they will achieve their student number targets, and therefore do not need to reduce their numbers. Some universities have already had their numbers reduced, and do not need to do so again.
