Not even war excuses this dark and bloody affair

Article Abstract:

Issues relating to whether or not US military justice will be able to prevent events such as those that happened at My Lai, Vietnam - where over 400 Vietnamese civilians were killed, many after being raped or tortured, by the soldiers of Charlie Company, 11th Light Infantry Brigade, Americal Division, US Army, on 16th March 1968 - from happening in Iraq are examined. It is argued that while the US military is different now, if the war in Iraq drags on it is likely that the quality of US military justice will be tested and the moral legitamcy of US foreign policy will depend on the outcome of this test.
