Article Abstract:

Genetic research is benefitting from the collaboration facilitated by use of the internet, with scientists able to share information worldwide and make links between sets of data that might otherwise go unnoticed. Scientific findings are published more quickly and can be accessed more readily via the internet, with chemists, DNA synthesisers and DNA researchers all able to exchange information to help accelerate drug development for the treatment of diseases worldwide.

To Russia with Caution

Article Abstract:

French President Mitterrand hopes to schedule talks with Soviet leaders this year. Although past French presidents had maintained very cordial relations with the Russians, Mitterrand has made efforts to strengthen United States relations. The most likely reasons for Mitterrand's trip to Moscow are analyzed. They include the French position that the Soviets must be involved in a Middle East settlement and the expansion of French exports to Russia.

Germ warfare

Article Abstract:

The beauty industry is marketing products that speak to a prevailing fear of doom and germs. As an example of germ-fear, seventy-five percent of the $400 million liquid soap business is in antibacterial soap. The reason behind the germ-fear and sense of doom is the upcoming millenium.
