Pioneers take business courses to great distances

Article Abstract:

The Hanzehogeschool, Groningen, Netherlands, was set up from a merger of two professional education schools, and has over 15,000 students, with 1,600 staff. There are 60 study programs including life sciences, technology, and economics. The focus is on a vocational and practical education. The school is developing distance learning and learning through the Internet, and is also seeking to attract more students from abroad. English is used for financial management degrees.

Maps, manuscripts, canoes and chipmunks breathe life into epic

Article Abstract:

Margaret Elphinstone, professor of writing at Strathclyde University, abandoned the library for the wild waterways of Canada as she sought inspiration for her latest historical novel, Voyageurs. Elphinstone, and experienced hillwalker and canoeist, canoed down little creeks and through swamps as well as hiking through wilderness areas in order to get a sense of the place that she planned to write about.

Has the pen lost its might?

Article Abstract:

The future of letter-writing in an age in which e-mail is becoming the dominant form of communication is examined. It is suggested that future generations of biographers will have lost a rich source of material as a result of the decline in letter-writing.
