Sex offence checks not just for schools, lawyers warn

Article Abstract:

Legal experts have warned that universities can not afford to dismiss concerns about employment of sex offenders in schools. Experts have told universities that they will also face scrutiny after the issue dominated headlines and the political agenda. Institutionas should conduct a Criminal Records Bureau check on potential employees whose duties will include caring for minors and hiring someone not allowed to work with children could result in judicial action.

Article Abstract:

An overview of the infighting that has struck the House of Commons Science and Technology Committee as a result of its recently published report on human reproductive technologies and the law. Following 18 months of evidence-taking by the committee, a report was produced to which five members of the committee took extreme exception, arguing that the report as issued made no effort to address their concerns or the concerns of the public.
