Struggling free from casualty: professions allied to medicine have come of age but face challenges to their development

Article Abstract:

Changes in the education of physiotherapists, chiropodists, and medical laboratory scientists have been aimed at moving from a subordinate status to medicine to an equal and allied status. Dramatic changes have occurred in pre-registration education and training and students are more likely now to undertake university study for an honours degree in their subject. Degree education practitioners are seen as better equipped to offer a cost effective quality service.
